keep an older OS when migrating?
If I restored a backup I created on a machine that runs Mountain Lion, to a new mac that comes with El Captitan, would it be possible to keep using Mountain Lion on the new machine?

Generally speaking, the version of OS X that a Mac comes with, is the oldest version of OS X that a Mac can run, because of the drivers needed for new hardware that cones with that Mac.
The only thing you could do is run Mountain Lion in a virtual machine such as VMware Fusion, Parallels, or VirtualBox On that new Mac.
